Stantec Senior Bridge Design Technologist in Burnaby, British Columbia
Under the direction of the Bridge Design Engineer and/or Lead Structural Design Technician, the position independently produces contract documents for bridges, retaining walls, culverts and other transportation related structures, prepares complete materials take-offs for quantity calculations and construction cost estimates and performs complex geometric calculations related to bridges and other structures detailing and drawing production. The position also assists the Bridge Design Engineer and/or Lead Structural Design Technician, as required, to ensure compliance with appropriate policies, guidelines, standards and other project requirements and assists in the coordination of designs with other disciplines working on the project such as roadway, geotechnical, hydraulics and environmental engineers.
The Senior Bridge Design Technologist will be based in Stantec’s Burnaby office.
The Senior Bridge Design Technologist will prepare complete construction contract drawings for provincial and other government tenders and for other clients, principally throughout British Columbia. Primary responsibilities will include: working independently or in a team environment and contributing to high quality designs and contract documents, leading construction contract drawing production for larger projects, preparing quantity take-offs and cost estimates, preparing presentation materials for client and public meetings, producing and contributing to technical reports, carrying out quality control checks on drawings and calculations prepared by others and assisting in managing the bridge drawing filing system and construction cost estimating data base.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
15 years’ of directly related experience or possession of a British Columbia Institute of Technology (or equivalent) Diploma in Civil and/or Structural Technology or Structural Drafting with a minimum of 10 years of directly related experience. Directly related experience includes experience with bridge drawing preparation, bridge technology (design and materials), bridge construction, bridge inspection and/or manufacture and erection of bridge components.
Proficient in AutoCAD (AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation is a definite asset but not essential, and related document production equipment.
Good knowledge and understanding of British Columbia bridge and structural drawing standards, codes and construction specifications.
Proven track record of successful bridge and structural projects.
Experience in British Columbia Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure Bridge Design Projects is preferred.
Some experience and capability in basic highway geometric design calculations is preferred.
