JOB SUMMARY MECHANICAL DESIGNER III with our Design Engineering Team LOCATION: Rochester, MN The Mechanical Designer III is responsible for supporting the design and development of complex customer products, testers and tooling by creating and maintaining mechanical designs, engineering drawings and associated documentation required for complex fabrication and assembly. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND COMPETENCIES * Focus on design and documentation for customer PCBAs and/or related tooling, resulting in a product or tooling that supports the manufacturing environment, if applicable, to meet both the customers requirements and the Benchmark manufacturing support groups requirements. * Assist Benchmark s Manufacturing and Test work groups in developing and implementing Design for Manufacturability/Design for Test (DFM/DFT) techniques. * Communicate technical challenges and work with peers to create and implement solutions. * Communicate with customer technical personnel regarding technical issues. * Contact and work with hardware, software and equipment vendors. * Develop an understanding of Design For Excellence (DFX) philosophy; Promote with customers. * Develop and follow project plan; Report project status to leadership. * Develop project proposals and associated cost estimates. * Make Engineering computations and write/edit specifications. * Process engineering change orders. * Verify completed work, checking dimensions, materials to be used and quantities, per the verification plan. * Assist BEI Manufacturing and Test work groups in developing and implementing DFM/DFT techniques. * Assist in the quoting and scheduling as required. * Assist with research and implementation of new and advanced CAD tools. * All employees are responsible for the Quality of their work to ensure BEI meets, or exceeds Customer Satisfaction. * Interacts with other internal departments affected by design development. * Creates and maintains engineering drawings and other design documentation. * Develop and coordinate the design process, material selection, material availability, material costing and analysis for custom mechanical component fabrication. * Develop and maintain proficiency as an intermediate user of Benchmark's mechanical CAD tools. * Interacts with vendors to ensure proper fabrication of mechanical components for product, testers and tooling. * Assists assembly of tooling, test fixtures and prototypes. * Effectively debug and initiate solutions for issues related to mechanical design, fabrication of components, and assembly of products, test fixtures, and/or tooling. * Performs complex drafting and design duties such as tolerance analysis, material selection, selection of fabrication methods. * Initiates, participates in and effectively documents design reviews. * Develop complex drawings of components and assemblies. * Drive and coordinate DFX reviews and create necessary documentation. * Ensure released Benchmark process instructions are followed during mechanical design and interaction with other Benchmark work groups. * Participate in identification and development of new and/or advanced technology initiatives. * Assemble and debug tooling, test fixtures and product. * Create and check others detailed drawings of mechanical components using industry standard drafting practices. * Make sound decisions relative to mechanical design concepts. * Creates new or modified designs for new or existing products and tooling. * Provide inputs and/or completes detailed quotes for the mechanical portion of product design, tester and tooling projects. * Provide research and development for new design methods and tools. * Work with Sustaining Engineering (product, process, test and quality) to develop products that leverage Benchm
