The Learning Experience Designer (LED) plays a key role in the development and delivery of high quality learning experiences for Duke Learning Innovation’s online initiatives. Working closely with world-class Duke Faculty, subject matter authorities, and other staff, the LED would develop online learning experiences, consult on instructional design, and collaborate on innovative uses of education technology in the academic community.
We help Duke Students learn more, and enables more people to learn from Duke. We do this in several ways, including:
Support faculty in creating new approaches to student-centered and active learning.
Building the ecosystem of education technologies that support learning, and working with departments and faculty to curate tools for the needs and learning goals of programs and disciplines.
Developing online learning opportunities that offer flexibility to Duke Students, reach the extended community of alumni and prospective students, and extend Duke’s global impact.
Exploring leading edge projects, work with faculty to gather data from Duke’s learning platforms and publishing research, and seeking grants and sponsored R&D
Opportunities to build and pilot new technologies.

Collaborates, consults, and assists with instructors’ plans for using online education in their teaching, including building educational content, instructional design approaches and learning assessments.
Designs prototypes or mockups of online learning experiences based on specified requirements and user-friendly design.
Tests learning experiences and provides feedback to instructors on how to improve the user experience.
Manages projects, coordinate efforts between the different roles of a production team, maintains timelines, and facilitates production workflows that help ensure instructional integrity through adherence to quality assurance standards and goals, gives project status updates to department leadership.
Works with instructors or other subject matter experts to design or edit learning content, including scripts, storyboards, or slides for video lessons, online assessments, assignment guides, discussion prompts, copywriting, etc.
Reviews and proofs content (copyright, videos, assignment instructions, assessments, etc.) for quality assurance.
Uploads the materials into a project’s learning platform, ensuring that the materials are functional and consistent with instructional design standard methodologies.
Monitor online forums in assigned online education projects, as well as help identify and resolve technical problems that occur while the project is active.
Provides support for project evaluation, including documenting standard methodologies, collecting and summarizing data about online learning activities, and building presentation materials about project outcomes.
Provides recommendations on how to solve or improve strategic, educational, and operational issues central to developing successful online learning strategies.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Required : BA/BS (preferably in design or a related field) with additional experience sufficient to effectively build, test and implement online education offerings (or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience).
Two years of work experience relevant to the job (e.g., instructional design, user experience design, online education, education technology, etc.)
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Ability to apply technology within and outside the body of knowledge and specialty of this position
An ability to work effectively with university instructors
Detail oriented, highly organized and capable of running projects with minimal oversight
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
Experience using design thinking in developing products or solutions
Knowledge of Coursera, Open edX, Sakai and/or other online course development tools
Proficient in MS Office, Google Documents, ScreenFlow or Camtasia
Experience with motion graphics or video production
Initiative in identifying and solving challenges and improving current processes
Experience working in higher education generally
Normal office environment
Must be able to work in an environment in which exposure to materials containing dust and mold is possible
Occasional travel possible

Work requires knowledge of computer-assisted instructional programsand materials normally acquired through a bachelors degree ineducational media, instructional design or a related field.
