Ultra Electronics, USSIdesigns and manufactures products and provides engineering services under three business areas: undersea products, audio products, and power management/fuel cell products. Based in Columbia City, Indiana, USSI is an industry leader in the development and production of advanced electronic, electro-mechanical, and hydro-acoustic sensors, including sonobuoys, and sensor systems for military, homeland security, and commercial applications. USSI also designs and manufactures communications equipment for integration into personal protective gear for firefighters and first responders as well as acoustic hailing products, which provide unparalleled fidelity long range voice communications and large area mass notification. At our Ann Arbor, Michigan, office, USSI designs and manufactures next generation power management technology and solutions for military and commercial/remote industrial applications using propane-powered solid oxide fuel cell systems. USSI is seeking an entry to mid-level designer to fulfill the needs of a rapidly growing commercial division within the company. This Mechanical CAD Designer will:

  • Create detailed designs using USSI standards and procedures to support drawings, bills of materials, processing engineering change notices with sufficient technical and precision to document engineering concepts and new product designs.

  • Participate in the preparation and validation of the technical data package needed to support engineering development, manufacturing, testing, and high volume production activities.

  • Work in many different areas of design including, bent sheet metal, machining, plastic injection molding, and electromechanical packages.

  • Work under the direction of a Design Engineer or a Senior CAD Designer for design standards.

Job Requirements


  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

  • Must have or be able to acquire a security clearance.

  • Basic 2 year Associates degree in drafting and design or MET.

  • 0 years to 10 years of 3D parametric (Unigraphics, SolidWorks or Autodesk) experience .

  • Self-motivated, highly efficient worker with the ability to adapt and drive designs to completion

Desired Experience:

  • Experience in PTC Windchill / PDM Link

  • Experience in PTC Creo / Pro/E

  • Experience in machined, injection molded, or bent sheet metal parts.

  • Experience in electromechanical packaging.

  • Configuration management / document control experience.
